Glasgow pizza king announced

A Glasgow restaurateur has beaten off stiff competition from across the UK to scoop the UK's Pizza Designer of the Year award.

Domenico Crolla, from Bella Napoli restaurant, battled it out against 11 other chefs from across the UK to create his winning dish which was made up of grilled chicken breast, cream, parmesan cheese, mixed wild mushrooms and penne pasta. The 'credit crunch' pizza has been priced at just £1.50.

Domenico said: "The ingredients are so simple and yet make up the most incredible array of tastes."

In order to get into the final, each competitor had to come up with a creative new pizza concept but with caveat that it had to be commercially viable.

Three of Scotland's top pizza chefs competed in the category, organised by PAPA, the Pizza, Pasta and Italian Food Association.
