Food Standards Agency launches online science store

The Food Standards Agency has today launched a new online store for all the scientific research that it funds.

Called foodbase, this open access platform helps fulfil the Agency's commitment to openness and transparency.

A summary of Agency research projects and their results have always been available on this website, but anyone wishing to scrutinise the research in detail previously had to request the full report from the Agency or visit the Information Centre at the Agency's London headquarters.

Now, foodbase will provide instant access to the outputs of Agency-funded research in full.

Reports made available on foodbase have been subject to independent peer review by external experts and are written by the researchers contracted by the Agency to carry out the work.

FSA Chief Scientist Andrew Wadge, said: "Foodbase is delivering the Agency's commitment to openness. Part of my role is to make sure that the scientific evidence that underpins our policies is robust, open and accessible. The repository makes sure the Agency does this in an effective way."
